Who Is Country Artist Conner Smith?
Country music singer Conner Smith canceled his upcoming appearances in Ohio following his involvement in a fatal pedestrian accident in Nashville.
Smith, a Nashville native, was born on September 6, 2000. His mother worked in the country music industry, and that inspired Smith to start writing his own music.
In 2021, Smith’s song “I Hate Alabama” went viral on TikTok. That song’s success led to him signing a deal with the Valory label under Big Machine Records.
Smith has since released two EPs and one full-length studio album. Those projects have produced four singles, the biggest hit being 2023’s “Creek Will Rise.” The song peaked at #12 on the Country Airplay chart and has been certified Gold by the RIAA.
Smith Was Involved In An Accident That Resulted In The Death Of 77-Year-Old Dorothy Dobbins
According to a statement released by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, 24-year-old Smith was driving a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck north on 3rd Avenue North in Nashville on Sunday, June 8, when he struck a pedestrian.
The Nashville PD identified the pedestrian as 77-year-old Dorothy Dobbins. Their statement read, “It appears that she was inside a marked crosswalk when she was struck around 7:30 p.m.”
Dobbins was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she died as a result of her injuries.
The Nashville PD identified the preliminary contributing factor for the accident as Smith’s failure to yield the right of way to Dobbins. Authorities say Smith didn’t show any signs of being impaired at the time of the accident.
Smith’s attorney provided a statement to PEOPLE after the accident, saying:
“His heart goes out to Ms. Dobbins’ family during this incredibly difficult time. Mr. Smith continues to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation.”
Conner Smith Cancels Concerts Following The Accident
Smith planned to headline the Kaulig Companies Golf Championship concert at the Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio, on June 20. However, he has since decided to withdraw from the show.
The Akron Beacon Journal cites a statement from talent agency William Morris Endeavor (WME), which reads:
“As Conner Smith takes time to privately process recent events, he will unfortunately not be performing in Akron on June 20. We appreciate your understanding and continued support during this difficult time.”
“Sunshine & Whiskey” singer Frankie Ballard will now take Smith’s place during the concert. The performance, billed as “A Night in Nashville,” will honor veterans and first responders in connection with Folds of Honor.
Smith also planned to perform at the Buckeye Country Superfest in Columbus, Ohio, on June 21. However, the Superfest has since announced that Smith “will unfortunately not be performing this weekend. Vincent Mason will be joining us at The Shoe in his place.”
