Cowboy Is Miracle In The Making After Tragic Injury Takes Ability To Walk

Hank Williams Jr. once said that “a country boy can survive.” This simple phrase is more than true for bareback rider, JR Vezain who has been recovering from a near-fatal injury he sustained while riding. His story is truly one of faith, family, and friends. With their help, he is already on his way to getting back on the saddle.

On September 22, 2018 – Vezain’s life changed forever. After his horse flipped on top of him during a Pasadena, TX competition, he was rushed to the hospital where surgeons operated on his two fractured vertebrae.

While something this tragic would discourage most, Vezain has stayed positive and serves as an inspiration to us all. He continues to post motivational Bible verses that prove he is not willing to give up and that he has faith in a full recovery.

Through it all, his loving wife has been there for him. Through thick and thin – this couple takes their vows very seriously.

Vezain posted an adorable picture of them cuddling in a hospital bed and said, “My snuggle buddy, my rock, my go to, my partner in crime, my beautiful wife, the love of my life! I’m glad “for better or for worse” was in our vows! You have been more than amazing! Words can’t even express how thankful and blessed I am to have you on this journey! Glad God picked me to have you! You’re in it for the long haul! Thank you babe!”

His buddies have had his back too. Casey Donahew, Steve Stone, Smarty Thester, and Curt Matthews teamed up to help Vezain with his physical therapy in a very fun way. They put together a set up for Vezain with a bull-dummy and some new twine for him to practice his lassoing. The results? A huge smile on Vezain’s face.
