Delta Plane Hit By Firework
A Delta Air Lines flight arriving at Chicago’s Midway International Airport on the Fourth of July reportedly struck a firework while descending for landing, according to the airline.
According to FlightAware, Delta Air Lines Flight 1076 departed Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport at 7:36 p.m. ET and landed at Midway Airport at 8:38 p.m. CT. Upon making its decent, the plane was reportedly struck by a firework.
Air traffic control audio captured the flight crew reporting a loud bang and saying they hoped the noise was caused by a firework exploding beneath the aircraft.
“Tower, we just had a firework hit our plane, Delta 1076, we’re continuing,” air traffic control audio revealed. “We just heard a bang on the plane, so we’ll have to look at it when we get to the gate. We’re just hoping it was just a mortar that went off underneath, but definitely felt a big bang.”
Delta Plane Lands Safe Following The Incident
The Airbus A319 landed safely without requiring an emergency landing, Delta said.
No injuries were reported, and the aircraft was taken out of service for inspection. After examining the plane, mechanics found no damage, according to the airline.
“Delta flight 1076 from Atlanta (ATL) to Chicago (MDW) reportedly made contact with a firework while on descent. The flight safely landed and taxied to the gate,” a Delta spokesperson told The Independent.
The FAA is reportedly investigating the incident.
