Demi Moore Fully Supports Her Ex-Husband’s Wife

Actress Demi Moore is showing her full support for her ex-husband’s wife, Emma Heming Willis.

After Emma revealed that Bruce Willis now lives apart from her and their daughters, Mabel (13) and Evelyn (11), amid his battle with frontotemporal dementia (FTD), Demi publicly defended her decisions and unwavering support for the actor.

“Being the ex-wife, even though our family is very connected, is an interesting position,” Demi explained on the Sept. 2 episode of Oprah Winfrey’s podcast. “So much fell on Emma to really figure this whole thing out, and the most beautiful thing was recognizing the importance for caregivers and that they have to take care of themselves. If they don’t put that time into making sure that they’re okay, then they can’t show up for anyone else.”

Demi applauded Emma for the way she has handled the difficult diagnosis, especially being so young herself.

“I have so much compassion for Emma in this, being a young woman,” she continued. “There’s no way that anybody could have anticipated where this was going to go, and I really think she’s done a masterful job. She has been so dedicated to forging the right path. She’s had equal amounts of fear and strength and courage in navigating this.”

Demi and Bruce, who were married from 1987 to 2000, share three daughters, Rumer, Scout and Tallulah.

Emma Provides Update On Bruce’ Health

Last month, Emma shared an emotional update on the actor’s difficult health journey. Despite the challenges, Emma says she and her family, including the couple’s 11- and 13-year-old daughters, still catch glimpses of Bruce’s personality.

“The language is going, and, you know, we’ve learned to adapt,” she said. “And we have a way of communicating with him, which is just a different way.”

Willis was first diagnosed with aphasia, a condition affecting his ability to communicate, in the spring of 2022.

In February 2023, his family confirmed that his condition had progressed to frontotemporal dementia, a more specific and serious form of cognitive decline, forcing him to retire from acting.

“Not days, but we get moments,” Emma shared. “It’s his laugh, right? Like, he has such, like, a hearty laugh. And, you know, sometimes you’ll see that twinkle in his eye, or that smirk, and, you know, I just get, like, transported.”

Emma Remains Devoted To Raising Awareness

Since Bruce’s diagnosis, Emma has emerged as a powerful advocate for dementia awareness, raising vital funds, building community support, and championing research into FTD.

In March of 2023, she attended AFTD’s Hope Rising Benefit in New York City, a gala that raised money in support of the organization’s work to support those affected by the disease.

The experience also compelled the 49-year-old, a model and entrepreneur, to step forward as an advocate for caregivers and push for greater support for families of those living with conditions like dementia.

She hopes her new book on caregiving will serve as a guide and road map for others navigating similar journeys.

“Caring for yourself while caring for someone else is one of the hardest, most heartbreaking challenges you’ll ever face. It’s easy to lose your sense of self. Through my own experience and insights from leading experts, I want to help care partners feel less alone, better prepared, and empowered to navigate this journey with strength and support,” she shares of the book on her website.
