Dolly Parton Once Revealed The Real Reason She Always Wore Wigs
Country music icon Dolly Parton was known around the world for her signature hairstyles and larger-than-life look. Dolly once joked that she likely owned at least 365 wigs, saying that she wore them almost every day.
Dolly has always been upfront about wearing wigs, a choice that came after years of putting her natural hair through extensive styling. Today, fans can get a closer look at replicas of her famous hairpieces alongside some of her most memorable outfits at her beloved Dollywood.
Along with her wigs, Dolly was equally open about the cosmetic procedures she underwent throughout her career.

Dolly once told Home & Family for the Hallmark Channel that the reason she wore wigs was so that she “never had a bad hair day.”
“Why not just wear wigs?” she said at the time. “That way I never have a bad hair day. I have a big hair day, but not a bad hair day…Gospel singers and country singers just have to have that big hair, it’s just a thing.“
However, Dolly explained that the real decision to wear wigs came down to one simple reason: protecting her natural hair from damage.
Constant bleaching and the use of hot curlers eventually began ruining her natural locks. Dolly said she had to find a way to still maintain her signature look without putting her hair through the same stress.
“I started wearing wigs because I quickly realised that bleaching and teasing my hair every day would completely destroy it. It was incredibly convenient to have several ready-made looks at my disposal, so I never had a bad hair day,” the country music icon once told American Vogue.

Throughout her career, Dolly continued to reinvent her signature hairstyles, adapting them to changing beauty trends while keeping her beloved look.
During the 1970s, she often sported shorter, softly curled wigs reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe. As the years went on, she transitioned to longer, mid-length styles with loose waves.
By the 1980s, her hair had become even bigger, featuring tighter, more defined curls. As Dolly’s career expanded into film and television, her hairstyles took on a more polished, glamorous finish. She continued wearing voluminous blonde wigs, experimenting with layered cuts.

There’s one thing that’s for sure — Dolly could pull off just about any look she experimented with, and she made it look effortless every time! Rest in heaven, Dolly.
