Dolly Parton Day To Be Celebrated Nationwide – See What’s Planned

September 25 will be a day to remember, as cities across the country come together to celebrate Dolly Parton Day.
The date is an ode to the country legend’s iconic song “9 to 5.” It also marks exactly one month after she passed away at the age of 80, following a private battle with cancer.
So, what does Dolly Parton Day mean? Well, fans can expect different businesses and organizations in multiple states to do something special to celebrate the singer’s life and legacy.
And in one state, it’s already been named an official holiday. California is the first state to do so.
The news came just a few days ago when Governor Gavin Newsom signed a bill into law officially recognizing Sept. 25 as Dolly Parton Day.
In a statement, Newsom said:
“We could all afford to live a little more like Dolly. Be kind, be humble and have some fun … Be a diamond in a rhinestone world. With this bill, we are not just establishing a day to celebrate Dolly Parton, we are creating an annual reminder to us, every year, to live the way she did − joyfully, graciously and with a whole lot of heart.”

What Cities Are Celebrating Dolly Parton Day?
Tons of different celebrations will happen across the country, including local events and special promotions. If you’re wondering whether businesses or restaurants in your area are doing something for Dolly Parton Day, contact them directly to see what they have planned.
Dolly’s home state of Tennessee will have several events happening throughout the day. Nashville is encouraging residents to wear pink and play “9 to 5” at 5 p.m. on Sept. 25. There will also be a fireworks show downtown at 9:25 p.m.
Over on Broadway, Garth Brooks’ bar Friends in Low Places is also getting involved. Garth and Trisha Yearwood are donating all of the bar’s proceeds from the day to the Nashville Public Library and Dolly’s Imagination Library. They’ll be accepting donations of children’s books, too.
The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum will host free activities from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., according to FOX 17 WZTV Nashville. This includes a butterfly coloring station and a “9 to 5” photo opportunity. Rare archival footage will be shown at 6 p.m., and a screening of “9 to 5” at 7 p.m.
During the evening, Nashville’s Korean War Veterans Memorial Bridge, Historic Metro Courthouse, and City Hall will all light up pink in Dolly’s honor.
Other cities and county’s taking part in Dolly Parton Day are:
- Manhattan, New York City – (Library read-ins, independent trivia & karaoke night, and look-alike contests)
- New Orleans – (French Quarter parade, live music, and an Imagination Library fundraiser)
- Portland, Oregon – (Local leaders are organizing a “Dolly Way” challenge, encouraging people to volunteer, read books to neighborhood children, and support local libraries)
- Montgomery County and Hays County in Texas – (a regional celebration that will take place at BBG’s. It will include Dolly Parton tracks playing all night, themed drinks, and local vendors.)
