Dolly Parton has officially been laid to rest.
Dolly’s family announced the heartbreaking news of her death on Tuesday, August 25, with her nephew, Bryan Seaver, sharing the devastating update. Her team later confirmed that the beloved country music icon and entertainer had passed away “peacefully” earlier that day.
Bryan shared the family’s statement in a video posted to Dolly’s official social media accounts, saying:
“I am representing the Parton and Owens family today announcing the passing of my aunt, Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean. Sister, sis, Aunt Granny to one generation and Gigi to the next.”
Bryan went on to say that Dolly is “in the arms of Jesus” and was “surely met by Carl, her parents, and countless others who have watched her, and longed for her to meet them in the heavens.”
Honoring Dolly’s wishes, her family was to hold a small, private service for immediate family members. Her nephew told TMZ that she will be buried in “her signature high heels and a comfortable cotton dress” at Nashville’s Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum, where her beloved late husband, Carl Dean, was also laid to rest.
Dolly’s niece, Lainey Parton, confirmed in a heartfelt Instagram tribute that her beloved “granny” had been laid to rest.
“From the time I was little, my granny always had a way of making me feel like I was enough. She never made my dreams feel too big or made me feel like I couldn’t do something. She believed in me before I even knew how to believe in myself,” Lainey wrote.
She continued, saying that she didn’t have one “bad memory” with Dolly. In her goodbye, Lainey went on to reveal that because the country star never had children of her own, the two shared an especially meaningful bond.
“Because she couldn’t have kids of her own, she always made us feel like we were hers. She loved us that way, and I’ll forever be grateful for that.”
Rest in heaven, Dolly.
