Dolly Parton Locked A Song In A Time Capsule That Will Never Be Heard Until 2046

About Dolly Parton’s Song In A Time Capsule
On Tuesday, Aug. 25, Dolly Parton died at the age of 80, leaving behind a legacy as one of the greatest icons of country music.
Still, there is a piece of her legacy still waiting to be experienced.
Located at Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, ABC News reports there is a box that is sealed… and it will remain sealed until 2046.
Within that box, which is called her “Dream Box,” Dolly placed several unmentioned mementos as well as a CD containing a 2015 recording of a song that no one has heard before.
Aptly titled “My Place In History,” this song will not be removed from the box until the 100th anniversary of her birth, on Jan. 19, 2046. Included inside the box with the CD is a CD player, just in case.
Writing of the time capsule in her 2020 memoir, Dolly Parton, Songteller: My Life in Lyrics, Dolly wrote, “There’s no telling what music is going to be by then. Hopefully, it will play and the whole thing ain’t rotted.”
A sign outside of the “Dream Box” notes that the box containing the song “My Place In History” is made of chestnut, and is a tribute to her “original mentor,” her uncle, Bill Owens.
As for the song, the sign states:
“Only Dolly knows its melody and content.”
Speaking with Jimmy Fallon on the Tonight Show in 2022 about the song “My Place In History,” Dolly said, “We do a lot of things at Dollywood, and, one year, we though about that, and they asked me if I would write a song that nobody would ever hear — I’ll be dead and gone. Well, I might not be, ’cause I’ll be 99, and you know.”
To the delight of the audience, she then quipped, “I might still be hoppin’ around.”
Continuing, she said, “Anyway, I wrote a song, and I put it in the box.”
Dolly said that she left a summary of what music was like in 2015, as well as instructions for how to play the CD, adding, “It was a really good song … I keep wanting ’em to let me dig it up and put something else in it that’s not as good.”
Concluding her thoughts on the unreleased song, she declared, “If any of you are around when they open that box, well, I hope you enjoy my song.”
Notably, Fallon misspoke and said the box would be opened in 2045, to which Dolly responded she would be 99.
