Dolly Parton’s official obituary has been released following the country music legend’s death at the age of 80.

Dolly died peacefully on Tuesday (August 25), leaving behind an extraordinary legacy that touched generations around the world.

According to an obituary from Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home & Woodlawn Memorial Park, Dolly will be remembered as a beloved global icon and humanitarian whose extraordinary career spanned seven decades and reached across music, film, television, theater and literature.

“A rhinestone life that shone bright enough for the world to see, Dolly will forever stand as an inspiration not only through her timeless music and prolific songwriting, but also her wit, warmth, and kindness that made us all feel like family,” the obituary reads.

Remembering The Legacy Of Dolly Parton

Dolly was one of 12 children born to Avie Lee and Robert Lee Parton Sr. She is preceded in death by her husband, Carl Dean, who she married in 1966. The couple remained together for nearly 60 years and did not have children.

The obituary remembers Dolly for a legacy built on “love, kindness, and resilience,” celebrating not only her extraordinary career in music but also her decades of philanthropic work and dedication to helping others.

Dolly’s family is encouraging fans, friends and admirers around the world to honor her memory by sharing tributes and memories on social media.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking those who wish to pay tribute to consider making a donation to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, the beloved literacy program she founded that provides free, age-appropriate books to children.
