A Ring camera helped Officer Soros with Arnold Police Department and other officers track down the young boy who was hiding in a local resident’s trash can.
The footage showed a police officer, Soros, asking the woman if her camera had picked up any motion.
“See if your camera picked any motion. We’re looking for a subject in a red t-shirt,” he said in the video.
Moments later, the woman hurriedly replied, “He’s in my trash can. He is in my dumpster in my garage.”
The police officers rushed to the garage with their guns drawn, and Soros demanded that the youngster come out of the trash can.
“Open that lid, now, I know you are in there,” he said.
The police officers tried to grab hold of the youngster, but he managed to escape and run away. The security camera captured the run and chase, and the youngster was eventually caught by the police.
Since being shared, the video has collected over 4.7 million views, with many users praising the doorbell camera as an effective security feature.
“THAT is the best security feature I’ve seen for a while. Brilliant for compressing many hours into a few minutes if you’re trying to review what went on,” commented one user.
However, some users expressed concern about the way the police officers handled the situation. One user noted that the youngster was lucky to walk away unharmed despite not complying with the officers, while another expressed worry that the police could have shot him as he fled.
“He’s lucky they didn’t shoot & kill him as he fled & for resisting arrest. Or while he hid unseen & unknown if he was carrying a weapon,” commented one user.
Overall, the doorbell camera played a crucial role in helping the police officers find the youngster hiding in the garbage can.
