In Season 5, there was an entire episode centered around the family rallying around Mia, who was preparing to undergo one of her biggest surgeries yet.

Throughout the years, Jase and his wife, Missy, have taken Mia to the same surgeon and specialist, Dr. David Genecov, the Medical Director of Children’s Medical Center Plano’s Craniofacial Program.

In some extremely sad news, Missy announced on social media that Dr. Genecov had tragically passed away in a car accident.

“Our family is saddened beyond words to be told today that Mia’s long-time surgeon, Dr. David Genecov, died suddenly this past weekend in a tragic auto accident,” she wrote.

Missy revealed that telling her daughter about her longtime doctor’s death “wasn’t easy.” She said Mia “is grieving the loss tonight. She can’t remember her life before Dr David. Please pray for his family and all of those who are grieving his loss.”

The ICI Cleft Lip and Palate official Instagram confirmed Dr. David’s passing, writing, “It is with great sadness and shock that we share the sudden passing of Dr. David Genecov after a tragic car accident on Saturday, November 12, 2022….[he] was proud to have helped thousands of people over the last 25 years. He was also utterly devoted to his family, including his wife, children, and granddaughter. We kno he considered each of his patients his family as well.”

She shared several photos of Mia with Dr. David throughout the years.
