Ella Langley Explains The True Meaning Behind The Name Of Her Dandelion Album

On Friday (April 10), Ella Langley released her highly anticipated sophomore album, Dandelion. The record, which Langley co-produced with Miranda Lambert and Ben West, features 18 tracks, 14 of which Langley co-wrote.

Some of the songs include the already-released “Be Her,” “Dandelion,” and “Loving Life Again,” plus the smash single, “Choosin’ Texas.”

Langley dropped the official music video for “Choosin’ Texas” the week before Dandelion debuted. The video features Langley, Lambert, Kaitlin Butts, Ava Phillippe, and Marshals star Luke Grimes.

The video has already surpassed 10 million views at the time of this writing.

Of course, one of the most meaningful songs on Dandelion is its title track. During an interview on Theo Von’s This Past Weekend podcast, Langley revealed that “Dandelion” was the first song she recorded for the album.

In truth, “Dandelion” almost ended up on Langley’s debut album, 2024’s Hungover (that’s how old the song is)!

Langley explained how she ultimately decided to hold on to “Dandelion” for a little longer. It carried a different sound and theme than the other tracks on Hungover and embraced a feeling she wanted to carry over to her second album.

Then, as she was working on the project, Langley learned something about dandelions that made everything fall into place. She uncovered the secret, symbolic meaning behind what would become her eventual album title.

Langley told Von that, traditionally, dandelions have been used to make a tea that can help with liver detoxification:

“When I heard that, it was like a lightbulb went off over my head,” she recalled. “It was like, ‘Oh my God, a record called Dandelion after a record called Hungover,’ It’s like, you’re just growing up.”

Langley previously dove more into the meaning behind the title of Dandelion in video she shared on social media:

“Dandelions are masters of survival, thriving in even the harshest of environments,” she said. “Often dismissed as a common weed, this unassuming plant carries a deeper symbolism of hope, healing, and resilience.

Ella Langley Shares What Dandelion Means To Her

After Dandelion was released on April 10, Langley shared a video on social media reflecting on the album and what it means to her.

From a songwriting standpoint, Langley said she has never “poured more of [herself]” into something like she has Dandelion. The record sends her back home to Alabama, where she grew up and got her start in music.

“It’s a thought that came in my head, and all of a sudden it’s real life,” she said.

Langley also celebrated the “absolutely insane” and talented team she worked with to create the album. Hear her reflect on that process in the clip below.
