FDA Upgrades Hand Soap Recall Across 15 States

Back in late June, a hand soap producer issued a recall on some of its products.
Produced by Intercon Chemical Co., which uses the tagline of “the Cleaner … the Better,” the hand soaps had already been distributed to 15 states.
Further, on Friday, Sept. 11, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued its classification of the ongoing recall, upgrading it to a Class II recall.
The FDA defines a Class II recall of a product as one that “may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”
The recall was issued in the following 15 states:
- California;
- Georgia;
- Illinois;
- Iowa;
- Maryland;
- Mississippi;
- Nebraska;
- New York;
- North Carolina;
- North Dakota;
- Pennsylvania;
- South Carolina;
- Texas;
- Washington; and
- Wisconsin.
Affected Intercon Chemical Co. products included in the Class II recall are, as follows:
- Intercon Foaming Pear Hand Soap With Aloe (28.7 fl. oz), which has a potential contamination of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Pseudomonas putida, Pseudomonas monteilii, Serratia marcescens, and Serratia nematodiphila;
- Clearly Better by Intercon Foaming Pear Hand Soap With Aloe, 1000mL (34 fl. oz.), which has a potential contamination of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Pseudomonas putida, Pseudomonas monteilii, Serratia marcescens, and Serratia nematodiphila;
- Summit 150 Foaming Hand Soap (28.7 fl. oz.), which has a potential bacterial contamination;
- Vestis Foaming Hand Soap, Fresh Pear Scent (33.8 fl. oz.), which has a potential bacterial contamination;
- Laura Lynn honey apple crisp Liquid Hand Soap (8 fl. oz.), which has a potential bacterial contamination; and
- Laura Lynn Foaming pear scent Hand Soap with Moisturizers (7.5 fl. oz.), which has a potential bacterial contamination.
Notably, all of the recalled soaps have Best By dates that end in early 2028.
