World Cup Draws In Historic Viewership

The world has been captivated by soccer this summer as the 2026 FIFA World Cup unfolded across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The historic tournament introduced an expanded format, with 48 national teams competing in 16 host cities across three countries. The record-breaking event marked the biggest World Cup ever, bringing together nations from around the globe for soccer’s most prestigious competition.

The championship game took place on Sunday (July 19), at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. The final featured a highly anticipated match between defending World Cup champions Argentina and reigning European champions Spain.

Spain defeated Argentina in a 1-0 overtime final.

It’s been said that the World Cup is just as big of a deal as the Super Bowl, which is pretty incredible considering how many fans football rakes in for its yearly championship game.

For the United States, the event brought in a major boost to tourism. International fans made headlines as they experienced American culture while celebrating the world’s biggest soccer tournament.

The tournament itself even made history. FIFA announced that total attendance for the 2026 World Cup reached nearly 7 million spectators across the tournament’s matches in June and July, setting a new record for the competition.

2030’s World Cup will see a similar geographical pattern, and take place in multiple surrounding countries. Morocco, Portugal and Spain will host that tournament which will be celebrating its 100th year. In addition, games will be played in Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay.

FIFA is reportedly also looking to add another 16 teams to the tournament, expanding the official number to 64 teams. It seems safe to say soccer fans around the world will be eagerly awaiting for another historic World Cup in four years.
