An Army Helicopter And An American Airlines Plane Collided Near The Ronald Reagan Airport On January 29

It was confirmed that “several” members of the U.S. Figure Skating team were on board an American Airlines flight going from Wichita, Kansas to Washington, D.C. that collided with an Army helicopter.

Around 9 PM local time, American Airlines Flight 5342 was preparing to land at Ronald Reagan Airport when it collided with what has now been confirmed to be an Army Black Hawk helicopter.

Both aircrafts crashed into the Potomac River following the collision.

Sadly, officials have confirmed they are not expecting any survivors.

A figure skating fan account @fs.delight also shared a few of Maravilla’s Instagram stories that seemingly corroborated the reports.

One of Maravilla’s Instagram Stories read, “Not allowed past gate to board flight…get me tf out of Kansas,” while another confirmed he did, in fact, drive to his next destination.

Once seeing the news, Maravilla took to his Instagram Story to express his sadness and shock, seeing as he knew most, if not all the skaters and their families on that flight. He also cleared up the previous report that he was supposed to be on the flight.

“Hey guys just want to clarify, these stories are not true,” he wrote on top of screenshots of various headlines stating he was meant to be on the flight. “I was flying to detroit [sic]. I was not supposed to be on the dc [sic] flight. My heart goes out to the victims and I cannot believe this is real. I am still in shock…too many friends gone too soon. Rest easy to the victims.”

Maravilla was trying to board a Delta flight to Atlanta, which would then take him to Detroit. His dog was the reason he wasn’t able to board.
