Thomas Wells, a talented vocalist who appeared on X-Factor and The Winner Is, has died in Texas following a workplace accident. He was 46.

According to his wife Jessica, Wells was working at a tire manufacturing plant in Oklahoma when part of his body got caught in a machine. TMZ reports that the machine was an automatic conveyor belt that didn’t stop. Wells was rushed to a hospital in Idabel, Oklahoma, and was later airlifted to a larger hospital in Tyler, Texas, “because doctors thought specialists in Tyler might be able to help him.”

Thomas Wells died in the hospital on November 13.

According to his obituary, Thomas taught himself to play instruments by ear when he was young and sang in church and school choirs. He married his wife in 2004 and competed on America’s Got Talent, X-Factor, The Voice and The Winner Is.

“He loved to make people laugh. He always had a smile and loved to joke and give people a hard time. He was a great entertainer and always became the center of attention,” the obituary reads.

On Thanksgiving Day (November 25), Jessica Wells shared a video to Facebook from Thomas’s graveside where she shared her final moments with her husband.

“I feel like it’s not real but I know it is. He was my best friend,” Jessica said through tears. “It was the worst day of my life because I lost my husband but the best day of my life because God told me he was home. I know 100, million percent Thomas is up there waiting for me.”

Thomas Wells is survived by his wife Jessica, his parents Ricky and Rosemary Dean, and his sister Brandi.
