Just hours after a lawsuit was filed against him for sexual assault and battery, Garth Brooks has issued a statement in response.

Thursday afternoon (October 3), news broke that the former hair and makeup artist for Trisha Yearwood and Garth Brooks had filed a lawsuit against Brooks for rape and sexual assault. The plaintiff, listed as “Jane Roe,” made startling allegations against Brooks, 62, that dated back to 2019.

It was revealed earlier in the day that Brooks filed a lawsuit of his own in mid-September in an effort to stop the impending lawsuit that he called “fabricated.” The singer filed his lawsuit under the name of “John Doe” in an effort to protect his identity and his family.

A copy of the lawsuit was obtained by Country Rebel and revealed that Brooks filed the complaint in Mississippi, which is the state of residence of the accuser. The lawsuit states, that Brooks filed the complaint “to obtain relief from Defendant’s ongoing attempted extortion, defamation, false light invasion of privacy, and intentional infliction of emotional distress through outrageous conduct including the publication and threatened wider publication of false allegations of sexual misconduct that would irreparably harm Plaintiff’s reputation, family, career and livelihood.”

Garth also accused “Jane Roe” of asking him for assistance after encountering financial difficulty. The country star complied, but Roe’s requests for financial help continued and grew more exorbitant. After Garth denied her continued requests, he alleges that she grew angry and sent a letter to Brooks and some of his co-workers that alleged “a litany of sexual misconduct by Plaintiff ranging from allegations of sexual ‘grooming,’ creation of a sexually hostile work environment, unwanted sexual touching,
and sexual assault. Defendant also alleged a belief that Plaintiff planned to hire someone to murder her.”

Further correspondence from “Jane Roe” stated that she would not pursue a lawsuit if Brooks was willing to pay a multi-million dollar settlement.

In a statement released to Country Rebel following the lawsuit filing on Thursday, Garth Brooks maintained his innocence and claimed that the plaintiff was after “hush money.”

Read Garth’s statement in full below:

“For the last two months, I have been hassled to no end with threats, lies, and tragic tales of what my future would be if I did not write a check for many millions of dollars.  It has been like having a loaded gun waved in my face.

“Hush money, no matter how much or how little, is still hush money.  In my mind, that means I am admitting to behavior I am incapable of—ugly acts no human should ever do to another.

“We filed suit against this person nearly a month ago to speak out against extortion and defamation of character.  We filed it anonymously for the sake of families on both sides.

“I want to play music tonight. I want to continue our good deeds going forward. It breaks my heart these wonderful things are in question now.  I trust the system, I do not fear the truth, and I am not the man they have painted me to be.”

This is a developing story!
