Gavin Adcock Playfully Hints At Future Return To Football While Sharing The Video That Led To His Suspension

Several country artists have a connection to sports.
Morgan Wallen and Riley Green both had aspirations, at one point, that involved baseball.
Green, as well as Lee Brice, Tucker Wetmore, and many others played college football before committing to music.
However, not everyone can say that their athletic experience was marked by a viral moment which led to them being removed from the team.
That’s what happened to Gavin Adcock five years ago, and he’s now sharing the moment as well as playfully hinting at a desire to return to the field.

Gavin Adcock Reshares The Moment That Got Him Kicked Off His College Football Team
Known for his bad boy reputation in country music, Gavin Adcock took a moment to reflect on his past in football, as well as the moment that ended that chapter in his life.
“That feeling when football season is back,” wrote Gavin on Sept. 5, posting several photos of himself playing football from his youth through his college days.
He added, “I’ve still got a year of eligibility left if someone wants to scoop me up.”
According to the NCAA Division I eligibility rules, a student has five years from when they enroll in college to compete in four football seasons.
Of course, Gavin is not presently in college, so that’s a mark against any hope of him returning to the field outside of a gig as a musical guest.
Further, Gavin had an incident that was caught on camera in 2021 that ultimately led to him being suspended.
While he was playing on the Georgia Southern University football team in 2021, he was suspended after a video showing Gavin chugging a beer on top of a moving school bus was released.
Last year, Gavin was on comedian Bert Kreischer’s podcast, and he addressed that moment, noting his suspension began as only a one-week “slap on the wrist,” adding that his coach “was like a disappointed dad.”
When the video went viral after being shared by Barstool Sports, Gavin said that he saw his listenership as a country artist increase.
At the time, Gavin was recording music and sharing it online. This interest in being a country artist began in 2018 when he was injured playing football.
Because of that injury, he leaned into his musical goals, stating that he had already committed himself to a “standard” of releasing “a song every three to six weeks.”
Recovering from an injury is one thing, but coming back from a viral video showing him in his GSU football uniform while drinking on top of a moving bus is something else entirely.
He recalled that his coach at GSU said, “‘Look, you can either play football, or you can sing, but you can’t do both.'”
Since then, he’s released three studio albums, with his fourth — titled The Day I Hang It Up — expected on Oct. 2.
