George Strait Made A Special Visit For A Great Cause

Country superstar George Strait made an incredibly special visit to sing at a cancer fundraiser over the weekend.

Musician and fiddle player Jenee Fleenor posted a video to her social media, sharing that Strait took the stage to perform at the 2025 Songwriter Shuttle Concert and Auction, supporting Gunnison Tough, an organization helping those fighting cancer.

“Gunnison Tough is an AMAZING organization and they are celebrating 20 years in helping those who are fighting cancer (specifically breast cancer) and helping in anyway they can to meet their needs. The stories I have heard have rocked my world and I can’t tell you just how amazing these people are!,” Fleenor wrote.

Strait reportedly surprised the audience, and Fleenor explained that she enjoyed watching everyone’s faces “light up” when the country legend came out.

The venue, Almont Resort & Restaurant in Almont, Colorado is an incredibly intimate setting, resembling that of a medium-size banquet room.

“Thank you to all who participated in this year’s event, you were Here For A Good Time, and your generosity to support Gunnison Tough programs means we’ll be here for a long time. Thank you for celebrating 20 years with us!,” Gunnison Tough wrote on their social media page.

What Is Gunnison Tough?

According to their website, Gunnison Tough is a Colorado-based nonprofit organization dedicated to providing comprehensive support for cancer patients and their families in the surrounding communities.

“Equipped with a powerful historical foundation, Gunnison Tough continues to identify and serve our community’s growing needs through partnerships and collaboration to provide our valley with the best rural cancer care in the country,” the website reads.

According to Fleenor, songwriter Dean Dillon, a leader and visionary for Gunnison Tough, apparently invited Strait to the event.

Dillon is most well-known for penning more than 60 songs for Strait — including classics like “Unwound,” “The Chair,” “Ocean Front Property,” “Famous Last Words of a Fool,” and “Here for a Good Time.”

Charity Concerts Are Close To Strait’s Heart

Following the catastrophic floods in Texas earlier this month, Strait announced that he was putting together a benefit concert to help those impacted, which is set to take place on July 27.

According to a press release, Strait partnered with businessman and Vaqueros del Mar partner of 15-years, Tom Cusick, to organize a “special benefit dinner and concert in Boerne, Texas, ‘Strait To The Heart,’ at Estancia at Thunder Valley indoor arena.”

“The destruction and loss in our community from the recent flood is hard to wrap your head around. Our hearts and prayers are with you all. The goal with this event is to raise meaningful, immediate support that can be put directly into the hands of flood victims without delay, while also honoring the first responders that work tirelessly to save lives,” George said in the release.

Just days after the fundraiser was initially advertised, the singer took to his personal Instagram to announce the show was sold out.
