David Orin is an incredibly young and talented snake handler, adventurer, and devoted follower of Jesus Christ from Gainesville, Florida, and his education videos of snakes are quickly gaining popularity.
“The reason I love snakes (and all animals) so much is because I recognize them as a glorious example of God’s creation,” Orin told Country Rebel.
The 21-year-old just got verified on Instagram last week (12/9) with 51 thousand followers and is getting hundreds of new followers every day. His Instagram has over 1200 fascinating and highly entertaining videos displaying his harmonious relationship with snakes and other creatures, such as turtles, frogs, lizards, spiders, crawfish, raccoons, and more.
Orin says, “My main focus across my platforms are to preach the gospel—and my secondary focus is to encourage others to become better stewards of God’s creation.”
With his friends and family filming him, folks get to witness Orin approach, handle and educate the public on the snakes and other animals he encounters. He’s very well trained on the different types of snakes, if they’re venomous or not, and how painful a bite from them might be.
When he confirms that a snake is not a threat to his life or will cause him serious injury, he sometimes allows the snake to bite him to then rank the pain level of the bite on a scale of 1-10 (10 being most painful). He says that most snake bites are a level 1-3 and not very painful at all as the majority of society believes.
“The whole reason I get bit by snakes isn’t to come off as some sort of sadistic, risky daredevil—but to try to get people to see that most bites don’t actually hurt and snakes aren’t so bad after all,” Orin explained.
He hopes by sharing these videos people will begin to treat snakes and other wild creatures more kindly and not just automatically kill them as soon as they see them. One thing that’s very important that he wanted us to share with our readers is his biggest hero and role model in life (other than Jesus Christ) and that is the late pastor and theologian, Dr. R.C. Sproul of Ligonier Ministries.
Orin studies Dr. Sproul’s teachings and models his own messages in the videos he creates because he says “that’s the kind of solid biblical teachings” he’s engaged with studying. He asked that we share a video with Country Rebel viewers and you can take a look at that below.
