“Home Improvement” Cast Reunites After Years Apart In Rare New Photo

Fans got a mini Home Improvement reunion when three of the show’s stars posed for a photo together.
People who grew up watching the 90s sitcom are feeling extremely nostalgic after Patricia Richardson’s latest Instagram post.
Richardson, who played Jill Taylor, shared a picture of herself with two of her onscreen sons, Taran Noah Smith and Jonathan Taylor Thomas.
This is one of the only times fans have seen the actors together since Home Improvement ended nearly three decades ago.
“My other boys❤️,” the picture’s caption read.
What surprised fans even more was seeing Thomas included in the photo. The former child star famously stepped away from his role as Randy Taylor before the show’s final season in 1999 to go to college.
“I’d been going nonstop since I was 8 years old. I wanted to go to school, to travel and have a bit of a break,” Thomas said in an 2013 interview with PEOPLE.
Thomas went on to attend Harvard, Columbia, and St. Andrews University in Scotland. After years out of the spotlight, he returned to acting for a few projects, mainly focusing on directing and writing.
“To sit in a big library amongst books and students, that was pretty cool,” he adds. “It was a novel experience for me.”
But over the years, Thomas has completely stepped away from Hollywood. These days, he hardly makes public appearances and doesn’t have any social media.
As for Smith, fans haven’t seen much of him lately either. He quit acting permanently after his time as Mark Taylor on Home Improvement.
According to his LinkedIn page, Smith works at SpaceX as a sea recovery technician.
Would A Home Improvement Reboot Ever Happen?
It seems like reboots of classic TV shows are everywhere these days, so could Home Improvement be the next to make a comeback? Well, it really depends on who you ask.
The show’s star, Tim Allen, has spoken publicly about a possible reboot before, and he seems open to it. Apparently, he even shared some ideas with the other cast members.
“It’s funny, one of the conversations we’ve had recently is how weird it would be if Home Improvement would be about the kids’ kids,” he shared. “Like if all of them had children, and I’m a grandparent. Home Re-Improvement or something like that. It’s come up.”
However, during a 2024 episode of Back to the Best podcast, Richardson revealed that she hadn’t heard anything about a possible reboot. She also admitted, at the time, she wasn’t interested in doing it.
“…I’m not involved in any series with Jill and I’ve also never even been asked to do another Home Improvement reunion thing, but I would not want to.”
Then there’s the question of how they’d get the rest of the cast together. Even if Smith and Thomas decided to reprise their roles, Zachary Ty Bryan’s return is even more uncertain.
Bryan played Brad, the oldest Taylor brother. But since his time on the show, he’s faced multiple run-ins with the law.
He’s been arrested six times in the last five years and is currently serving a 16-month jail sentence after pleading guilty to a felony DUI charge tied to a 2024 incident.
