Actress Isabelle “Izzy” Tate Died At Age 23 On October 19…Her Agent Has Since Shared Her Cause Of Death
9-1-1: Nashville actress Isabelle “Izzy” Tate passed away on October 19, just ten days after the show’s pilot episode aired on ABC. She was 23 years old.
Tate played a character named Julie in the episode. She received special attention from dancer-turned-firefighter Blue Bennings (played by Hunter McVey), after another woman was rude to her because she (Julie) was in a wheelchair.
Tate used a wheelchair in real life. She was diagnosed with a progressive neuromuscular disease when she was 13, which caused the weakening of her leg muscles.
Tate’s talent agency, The McCray Agency, said that 9-1-1: Nashville was the first series she booked after returning to acting. “She had a wonderful time,” they said about her experience on the show.
After news broke about Tate’s passing, The McCray Agency released a statement revealing her cause of death. They said Tate had been diagnosed with a rare form of Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease (otherwise known as CMT).
The Mayo Clinic describes CMT as “a group of inherited conditions that cause nerve damage,” with the damage occurring primarily in the nerves of the arms and legs.
Country singer Alan Jackson is one of the most well-known celebrities with CMT. He shared his diagnosis in 2021.
As Tate’s agent detailed in a statement provided to TMZ, “the disease affects the legs but can also affect internal organs such as the lungs and heart.” Tate’s agent told TMZ that the young actress “passed away peacefully in her sleep.”
In lieu of sending flowers, those who wish to honor Tate may donate to the Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association in her memory.
9-1-1: Nashville Star Hunter McVey “Shocked” By Isabelle Tate’s Death
Hunter McVey, the actor who plays Blue Bennings on 9-1-1: Nashville, spoke about his experience working with Isabelle Tate on the show.
McVey told PEOPLE:
“I was shocked to hear the news [about Isabelle’s death]. I didn’t know Isabelle prior to filming, but I couldn’t have asked for someone better to work with on one of my first ever days on set.”
McVey shared how nervous he was to film their scene together. But after every take, he’d stop to chat with Tate, and she was “always supportive.”
“I got the pleasure of talking with her after the scene and she had such a great energy,” McVey said. “You could tell she brought joy to a lot of people.”
McVey’s comments echo what others have said about Tate. Her obituary describes her as being “full of fire” and “a fighter” who “wanted to change the world.” She loved volunteering, making music, and spending time with family and friends.
“I’m thankful I got a chance to work with Isabelle and that a part of her will live on forever in the pilot episode of 9-1-1 Nashville,” McVey said. “Prayers for her family.”
Isabelle Tate is survived by her mother, Katerina Kazakos Tate; her stepfather, Vishnu Jayamohan; her father, John Daniel Tate; and her sister, Daniella Tate. We too, join McVey in sending our prayers to her loved ones during this difficult time.
Entertainment Weekly reports that a future episode of 9-1-1: Nashville will honor Tate with a memorial title card. May she rest in peace…
