This year’s 91st annual Oscar nominations were announced with a multitude of significant talent following behind every award. While Roma and The Favourite led the nominations with 10 nods, other films were not far behind. One film, in particular, A Star Is Born received 8 nods from the academy and your favorite actor might just be to thank.

A Star Is Born

A Star Is Born, tells the story of a famous country singer – played by Bradley Cooper – who battles alcohol and drug addiction. After meeting an aspiring young singer – played by Lady Gaga – he falls in love with her. The two hit it off and he helps propel her career into the music industry. Tensions fly and relationships are broken throughout the emotional film including between Cooper’s character and Sam Elliott‘s, who plays his older brother and manager.

50 Years & Counting

Although Elliott plays a supporting character in this widely successful 2018 film, he has been stealing the screen for decades. He starred in his breakthrough film, Lifeguard in the late 1970s and appeared in several films following. His charming persona and deep voice had fans swooning over every character he portrayed.

A Well-Deserved Nomination

Fast forward to 2018, and Elliott finally got the credit he deserves. He received critical acclaim for his performance in A Star Is Born, winning a National Board of Review Award for Best Supporting Actor. His most recent accomplishment for the film is his 91st Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor nomination. While talking with Deadline, Elliott’s reaction said it all.

“I think the thing off the top of my head might be, ‘It’s about f—ing time,” he joked. “Beyond that, it’s really about the work; it’s just about the creative process. It’s great to be recognized for that, that’s really all it’s about.”

Humbled by his well-deserved award, he continued,

“I think my biggest takeaway is just how fortunate I am. Number one, to still be in the game, but to have an opportunity to work with two people like Bradley and Stefani (Lady Gaga), it’s just extraordinary,” he gushes. “Fifty years into the game and all of a sudden to have anything to do with this, to be connected with a film like this, it’s just a wonderful gift.”

Congrats to Sam for his incredible Oscar nomination! Though he did not win, he was honored to be nominated.
