On Tuesday night (December 17), Jake Hoot became the 17th winner of The Voice. Just like Javier Colon, who won Season 1 in 2011, Hoot walked home with a record deal and a $100,000 cash prize.

Over the course of its 17 seasons, The Voice has given out the same cash prize to all of its winners. While some winners have earned additional perks, such as a free car, they have all received the $100,000, a record deal, and the signature V-shaped Voice trophy.

After Hoot left The Voice $100,000 richer than when he started, fans were curious to know how he’d spend his prize. He satisfied that curiosity in an interview with Newsweek after his big win.

Janice Williams interviewed Hoot, and asked him if he had “any special plans” for the prize.

It turns out Hoot has a few plans in mind for the prize money. He told Williams he wants to treat his daughter, Macy, to some gifts, and also wants to buy gifts for his girlfriend, Bekah, and her daughter, Hadley.

Well, I’ll probably be able to buy some pretty nice presents for the girls and my girlfriend…” he said.

On top of that, Hoot says he’d like to put some of the prize money toward a down payment on a house. He told Williams he has been eyeing an old home in Tennessee for some time now.

Hoot believes the house was built in 1900:

“I’ve had my eye on a house back home in Tennessee that’s from the early 1900s,” Hoot said. “I think it was actually built in 1900. So that will be a nice little down payment on that.”

As for what Hoot has planned now that he has a record deal, he says he’s first going to focus on enjoying the holidays and spending time with family:

“Honestly, I think the first step is just to go home and spend some time with family. It’s the holidays so I’m assuming everybody else is going to be going home and doing their thing. I think early next year—maybe the beginning of January—I can take a running shot at this thing and pursue it full time,” he said.

We wish Hoot the best of luck in his future. Hopefully he’s able to get the house he’s had his eye on in Tennessee!
