Despite his inclusion on the Opry 100 lineup, Jelly Roll didn’t show up for the star-studded celebration on Wednesday (March 19).

Jelly Roll was one of the first artists attached to Opry 100. His name was revealed in the initial batch of performers announced in January.

Jelly Roll made his Grand Ole Opry debut on November 9, 2021. While the Nashville native isn’t a member (yet), he’s performed at the Opry many times over the years.

Plus, as one of modern country music’s most popular stars, it seemed like a no-brainer that Jelly Roll would play a part in celebrating with his fellow artists during Opry 100.

A few days before showtime, we learned that Jelly Roll was supposed to join Ashley McBryde for a tribute to Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash.

He also appeared in some of the program’s promotional material, which was shared just days before the show. The clip below is one example.

But on the night of Opry 100, Jelly Roll was noticeably absent from the red carpet. Then, once the show started, he wasn’t seen in the crowd.

When it came time for Jelly Roll’s performance, another singer stepped up to perform with McBryde (more on that below). His sudden and unexplained absence left fans with questions.

As of press time, Jelly Roll has yet to release a personal statement about his absence. However, The Tennessean reports that he “had to bow out due to illness.

Post Malone Stepped Up To Sing “Jackson” With Ashley McBryde

The Opry found a last-minute replacement to take Jelly Roll’s place onstage. Post Malone stepped up to sing “Jackson” with Ashley McBryde in an ode to Johnny and June. The pair’s duet ended up being one of the highlights of the night.

Knowing how good the collaboration was, NBC made certain to share a clip of the performance on their social media channels. You can watch the video below.

Hats off to Post Malone for stepping in to cover Jelly Roll’s part on such short notice! Our thoughts also go out to Jelly Roll, and we hope he feels better soon.
