It’s hard to believe the FIFA World Cup is already coming to an end!
For the past month, fans from around the world have witnessed historic soccer matches take place across United States, Canada, and Mexico. The tournament featured 48 teams competing in 16 host cities across the three countries
The United States’ journey came to an end after losing to Belgium. They were just one win away from their first quarterfinal appearance since 2002.
Argentina & Spain Compete At The World Cup Final
The championship match took place on Sunday (July 19), at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Playing in the match were defending world champions Argentina and reigning European champions Spain. The two international powerhouses battled for soccer’s biggest prize after surviving the tournament’s expanded 48-team field.
Spain, known as La Roja, chased its second FIFA World Cup title after winning for the first time in 2010. Argentina, led by manager Lionel Scaloni, was aiming to defend its title and become just the third nation in World Cup history to win back-to-back championships.
Jennifer Hudson Delivers Powerful National Anthem Performance
Just ahead of the big game, singer Jennifer Hudson took the stage to deliver a stunning rendition of the National Anthem.
“One of the world’s most celebrated performers, Hudson’s powerful performance will set the stage for football’s biggest match and the most anticipated moment of the tournament,” FIFA said in a press release.
Taking the stage in an all-white two piece set tied with patriotic colored bows, Hudson sang a powerful rendition of the nation’s most coveted song. The former American Idol star brought the crowd to its feet as she belted out the hit.
