Jo Dee Messina Wows With Effortless Cover Of Aerosmith’s “Dream On”
on Jun 18, 2026

Jo Dee Messina recently put her own spin on Aerosmith’s “Dream On.”
The country star performed the rock song while taking part in the Academy of Country Music’s new digital series, Our Country.
According to the ACM, the series’ mission is to celebrate the “music, memories, and stories that define Country Music and creates a powerful musical tribute to America’s past, present, and future.”
The artists involved perform stripped-down acoustic versions of their song of choice, while also sharing personal stories and conversations about the role music has played in their lives.
“I think music in general, no matter what the format or the genre, it kind of gives us a voice,” Messina told the ACM. “It gives our feelings of voice or our life, our voice, or our trials of voice. And so I think whether we sing it or we listen to it, it gives us a chance to be heard.”
“Dream on” is no easy song to sing. If you’ve ever heard it (and chances are you have), you know that Steven Tyler’s high notes are what make the song so memorable, and they’re not something that every singer can pull off.
However, Messina proved she was more than up to the challenge.
Before her performance, she explained that she chose the song because she grew up in Massachusetts and wanted to pay tribute to one of the most legendary bands ever to come out of Boston.
“I remember being a little kid and hearing this. I grew up outside of Boston so for me to be able to sing an Aerosmith song, first of all, is an honor. And second of all, it’s scary because if you don’t do a good job, then you can’t ever go back home,” she joked.

While a rock classic like “Dream On” isn’t the kind of song that fans usually hear from her, the country star showed just how versatile her voice is and delivered a cover that did the iconic track justice.

The performance gave Messina a chance to let her voice do all the work, backed by nothing more than two acoustic guitar players. She kept her country twang throughout the song, while also giving it a calmer feel than the original.
And when it came time for the famous vocal screams the song is known for, Messina did it with ease. She actually made one of rock’s toughest songs look effortless.
