What You’ve Seen Of The Gaines House So Far

During the course of their HGTV series Fixer Upper‘s five-year run, Chip and Joanna Gaines continuously welcomed viewers into their rustic Texas home. But they only ever showed the house in pieces, focusing on the outdoor areas and a few rooms.

One room that fans of the show are more than familiar with is the kitchen. It appeared in the show more than any other room in the house, as it served as the setting for Joanna to chat with clients about design decisions.

So even though you’ve seen parts of the Gaines farmhouse before, you’ve never got the chance to go on a tour. That is, until now.

Joanna Says Walking In Her Home Is “Like A Big Hug”

The couple granted Jenna Bush Hager of TODAY the chance to take the first on-camera tour of their home, and a video of the tour was shared by TODAY online. While the tour didn’t cover the whole house, it did throw a spotlight on some areas you had probably seen little of before.

Before they walked inside, Joanna described the design of her home as being “like a big hug.” She said the relaxing space serves as a place to store fond memories, saying “I feel like everywhere I look there’s a story…

The story starts in the entryway to the house, which although small, is perfectly decorated to be a welcoming space.

The second area of the home that Joanna and Jenna toured was the living room. Once again, the space is on the smaller side, so Joanna opted to keep things simple with the design.

In the living room, you’ll find a couch and a few stools as seating, all matching Joanna’s favorite black and white color scheme (she loves the contrast). You’ll also see a few unique pieces, such as the pea green piano in the corner and the old street sign she and Chip found on their honeymoon years ago.

See Joanna’s Favorite Room

The final room showcased in the tour is actually Joanna’s favorite room in the entire house. And you may be surprised to hear what it is…the laundry room!

Instead of making the room feel like it’s only a place for chores, Joanna transformed it into a relaxing oasis. A simple table in the middle and some plants around the room make it a calming and peaceful place for her to read, write, and of course, do laundry.

But Wait, There’s More…

You get the chance to see even more of the home through pictures that flash across the screen throughout the tour. One space that is especially well-decorated is the nursery for the couples’ fifth child, son Crew.

Joanna’s favorite part of that room is Crew’s “book wall,” a wall with shelves displaying books gifted to him by family and friends.

No wonder why Joanna enjoys being at home…her house is gorgeous! You can join Jenna and TODAY on their tour of the Gaines farmhouse by tuning in to the video below.

Which room is your favorite? Do you love the laundry room as much as Joanna does, or do you feel a draw to another space?
