After three years of waiting, Jon Pardi has finally released his third studio album. And although the record just became available to stream and download on September 27, it’s already critically acclaimed.

The new record, titled Heartache Medication, serves as the followup to Pardi’s Platinum-certified album California Sunrise. That record, which was released in 2016, produced numerous hit singles, including “Dirt on My Boots,” “Heartache On the Dance Floor,” and “Night Shift.”

Heartache Medication‘s lead single and title track has also performed well on the charts since its release in May. As of press time, the single’s official music video has over 2.5 million views on YouTube.

Including its title track, Heartache Medication contains 14 songs, seven of which were co-written by Pardi himself. He also served as the record’s co-producer alongside his longtime collaborators Bart Butler and Ryan Gore.

I’m really proud of this record,” Pardi says. “I’m really proud of all the session players, and the songwriters that delivered great songs. I wrote half the record and Nashville stepped in and wrote the other half, and I’m very proud of that.”

One of the tracks on the album is a duet with Lauren Alaina, titled “Don’t Blame It on the Whiskey.” The song was co-written by Eric Church and Miranda Lambert, along with Michael Heeney and Luke Laird.

Other songs you can hear when you download or stream Heartache Medication are “Ain’t Always the Cowboy,” “Call Me Country,” and “Love Her Like She’s Leaving.”

Reviews of Heartache Medication have been overwhelmingly positive. The Los Angeles Times wrote the following about the album:

Pardi’s evolved approach to country’s heritage sets him apart at a moment when Nashville seems to want to divide itself into the trailblazers and the preservationists.”

NPR also complimented Heartache Medication:

…an emboldened work…one that draws both vitality and assurance from his anything-but-sterile relationship to his tradition’s modern era…

Rolling Stone praised both Heartache Medication and Pardi himself, saying the singer has a collection of songs that places him right on par with “…country-music heroes like Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard…both as a preservationist and rule-breaker.”
