on • Updated
Home Improvement star Jonathan Taylor Thomas was detained for resisting arrest during a recent traffic stop.
Citing the LA County Sheriff’s Department, NBC 4 out of Los Angeles reports that the 45-year-old former actor was a passenger in a vehicle that was pulled over in a traffic stop. The incident occurred around 12:30 AM on Monday (September 21) in Westlake Village, California (near Malibu).
The deputies on the scene initiated a DUI investigation. NBC 4 reports that the unnamed driver (not Thomas) was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
Regarding Thomas, specifically, NBC 4 reports that the Sheriff’s Department stated he “got out of the car and resisted arrest.” Jail records obtained by NBC 4 show Thomas was “booked on suspicion of felony obstruction [and] resisting an executive officer.”
Those records also show that Thomas was released from custody on Tuesday, September 22. NBC 4 requested a comment from Thomas, but has not received one as of press time.
This is a developing story…
Who Is Jonathan Taylor Thomas?

The former actor was also the voice of young Simba in Disney’s 1994 animated classic The Lion King. He appeared in movies including Man of the House, Tom and Huck, Wild America and I’ll Be Home for Christmas.
After leaving Home Improvement, Thomas attended Harvard University and the University of St Andrews before graduating from Columbia University in 2010.
Thomas has largely stayed out of the spotlight in his adult years, although he was seen in a recent photo reuniting with former Home Improvement co-stars Patricia Richardson and Taran Noah Smith in July 2026.
