Texas Is Reeling Following Devasting 4th Of July Flood
Texas native Miranda Lambert can’t stand to see her home state hurting, so she’s planning a benefit concert to help in a time of need.
On July 4th, a catastrophic flood tore through the Texas Hill Country, leaving devastation and destruction in its wake. A July 13 report from USA Today states that the death toll has climbed to 132.
27 of those killed by the flood were campers or counselors at Camp Mystic. The camp is located along the Guadalupe River, which, according to NBC News, surged up to 26 feet in mere minutes.
As Texans continue searching for those lost in the flood, stories of heroism have emerged. A Coast Guard rescue swimmer named Scott Ruskan has been credited with saving 165 people.
Another young man, Matthew Crowder, was called an “angel” after he warned a family to leave their home as the water rose. When he reunited with the family a few days later, they credited him with saving their lives.
61-year-old Jeff Ramsey called family members in a cabin just 150 yards from the river. His call woke them up and allowed them to get out in time, saving their lives.
Sadly, Ramsey, who was staying in an Airstream at the HTR RV Park, did not survive. Before he died, he called his children and left them emotional “goodbye” voicemail messages.
Miranda Lambert Tells Cody Alan She’s Planning A Benefit Concert For Texas
Country artists have led the charge in helping Texas recover from the flood. Texas natives Robert Earl Keen and George Strait both announced future benefit concerts to help their home state.
Country artist Josh Weathers hosted a virtual benefit concert just days after the flood that helped raise over $430K for relief efforts.
Chris and Morgane Stapleton donated $1 million toward flood relief efforts through their charitable fund, Outlaw State of Kind. They donated to various local and national organizations, including Miranda Lambert’s MuttNation Foundation.
Lambert co-founded her MuttNation Foundation with her mom, Bev, in 2009. The organization helps animals in need, especially after natural disasters.
On July 5, Lambert said that MuttNation was working with Kerrville Pets Alive to learn more about their needs and help animals affected by the floods. She’s continued to update her followers on MuttNation’s efforts and knowledge of the situation in Texas.
Then, on Monday (July 14), Lambert called in to speak to Cody Alan, the host of the Highway Mornings show on SiriusXM. During their conversation, Lambert announced her plans to host a benefit concert for Texas.
“I feel like I’m on the verge of tears constantly,” Lambert told Alan. “I feel…helpless like everybody else.”
She added, “But I know more than anything that Texans help Texans. I’m working on more things to come, hopefully next week [I’ll] announce some things I’m trying to do to help.”
When Alan asked if she was planning a benefit concert, Lambert said, “yes.”
“We’re working on putting some stuff together,” she said.
She added, “I can’t talk about it yet because it’s literally just happening.”
Alan shared a clip of his conversation with Lambert on Instagram and captioned it:
“I spoke with Miranda Lambert this morning and she confirmed she’s planning a benefit concert for the Texas flood victims. She’s on a mission to help her fellow Texans and promised more details very soon! As well, Miranda’s Muttnation Foundation is already busy helping the animals affected. You can make a difference—from fostering to donating or simply spreading the word.”
