Jake Hoot has been living the dream ever since he won Season 17 of The Voice as a member of Team Kelly. He was asked to perform at the Grand Ole Opry, got married, and released his debut EP, Love Out of Time, in January of this year.

The EP contains a new duet with his former Voice coach Kelly Clarkson. Titled “I Would’ve Loved You,” Hoot co-wrote the song with Dean Sams of Lonestar and Jamie Floyd:

“I Would’ve Loved You is a song about how the choices we make and the consequences that follow,” Hoot said in a statement cited in a press release. “It is a story about someone who has so much love to give, but due to the other person’s decisions, that love turns into a hate that lasts forever.”

Hoot and Clarkson released their official music video for the song in February. It has since earned nearly two million views.

In late March, Clarkson invited Hoot to join her on her talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show. When it came time for Clarkson to deliver her “Kellyoke” performance, she reunited with Hoot so they could sing “I Would’ve Loved You.”

This was the first time that Hoot and Clarkson ever sang their duet together live. It also marks the first time fans have seen them sing together since the Season 17 finale of The Voice, which was in 2019. They performed “Wintersong,” since the finale aired the week before Christmas.
