Kelly Clarkson Becomes Third Female Coach To Win The Voice

Over the course of its history, The Voice has seen several coaches fill its famous red chairs. The two constants have always been Adam Levine and Blake Shelton, who are also the coaches with the most victories.

It wasn’t until the tenth season that a female coach finally walked away with the trophy. That coach was Christina Aguilera, who won Season 10 as the coach of Alisan Porter.

The next female coach to score a win on the show was Alicia Keys with her contestant Chris Blue, who was the star of Season 12. After Shelton won again in Season 13, new coach Kelly Clarkson came back in Season 14 to win with 15-year-old Brynn Cartelli.

What Did Keys Have To Say About Losing?

For the first time in eight seasons, Shelton didn’t have a contestant in the top two of the Voice finale. His two contestants, Kyla Jade, and Spensha Baker, ranked in at third and fourth place, respectively.

That left Clarkson (with Cartelli) in the top spot, and Keys’ Britton Buchanan in second place. After winning the show before, you’d think that Keys would have been upset about coming so close to having the season’s winner on her team.

But if you know anything about Keys, then you’d fully expect to hear about her kind and humble reaction to losing The Voice. During an interview with the press after the show wrapped up, Clarkson talked about how Keys treated her and what she had to say.

Keys & Clarkson Celebrate Girl Power In Finale

Alicia and I were so funny at the end,” Clarkson said.

As Clarkson said, the two of them felt quite conflicted once they knew that Cartelli and Buchanan were the final two contestants. She explained that they love them both, so even though they wanted their own contestant to win, they would have been happy regardless.

But they had an even greater reason to be excited, which Clarkson shared. “We love Britton, but it was one of those things, ‘Regardless, a female is walking out of here a winner!'” she said. “It was really Alicia’s and my goal just to beat the cowboy [Shelton], so success!”

It’s awesome to hear that Keys joined with Clarkson in celebrating her success!

Clarkson Happy To Help Cartelli On Her Journey

As the original winner of American Idol, Clarkson fully understands the journey that Cartelli and Buchanan went on during their time on The Voice. Now, as a coach, she’s just happy to be able to help other singers along on that journey.

To turn around and be able to help and give someone that opportunity that I had, I know it’s a blessing and I know it’s an aligning of the stars,” she said.

It would be hard for anyone, including Keys, to be upset over Clarkson winning after seeing how happy she was for Cartelli! You can watch one of our favorite Brynn Cartelli performances in the video below.
