Country singers Kelsea Ballerini and Morgan Evans started dating in March 2016. They were engaged on Christmas of that same year.
The couple married in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, on December 2, 2017.
Evans released a song, titled “I Do,” which he wrote for Ballerini. That song was included on his 2018 album Things That We Drink To. That album also contained a collaboration between Evans and Ballerini, titled “Dance with Me.”
Fast forward to this year…a few months had passed since Ballerini last posted a photo of Evans on her social media accounts. Then on Monday morning (August 29), Ballerini announced that she and Evans are divorcing:
“Friends, I’ve always tried my best to share my life with you in a real and vulnerable way, while also protecting layers of my personal life as they unfold,” Ballerini wrote in a statement on her Instagram Story. “This is now public record so I wanted you to hear from me directly that I am going through a divorce.”
Ballerini’s statement continued:
“This deeply difficult decision is the result of a journey of love, growth, and effort that ultimately has come to an end. It’s hard to find the words here, but I feel extremely grateful for the years of marriage to Morgan and hopeful for the next seasons. With very active schedules coming up, please be mindful that we are both fragile, actively healing, and showing up the best we can.“
PEOPLE confirms that Ballerini filed for divorce from Evans on Friday (August 26). Evans has not commented on the news as of this writing.
The couple’s split comes shortly after Ballerini released new music, including the single “Heartfirst.” She plans to release a new album, Subject to Change, in September.
We wish Ballerini and Evans the best moving forward.
