According to TMZ, Christine Baumgartner, the wife of Kevin Costner, filed for divorce on May 1, citing “irreconcilable differences.” The news came out on Tuesday, May 2.

Kevin and Christine initially met during the filming of Tin Cup in 1996 and rekindled their relationship two years later, leading to a romantic connection. They got married in September 2004 and have three children together: Cayden (15), Hayes (14), and Grace (12). Kevin also has four children from previous relationships.

The announcement of their divorce comes at a time when fans of the popular TV show Yellowstone are eagerly waiting for the release of new episodes. The series took a break in January, promising to return with fresh episodes in the summer. However, rumors started circulating suggesting that Costner wanted to limit his time on set.

These rumors were denied by Kevin’s attorney, who dismissed them as “ridiculous” and clarified that the claim of Kevin only being willing to work for one week in the second half of season five of Yellowstone was completely false. Subsequently, reports emerged speculating that the show’s creator, Taylor Sheridan, plans to kill off the character of John Dutton when the show resumes.

Amidst this challenging period, Kevin released a statement through his representative regarding his divorce. The statement, shared with PEOPLE, expressed Kevin’s deep sadness over the circumstances that led to the dissolution of their marriage. It also requested privacy and respect for Kevin, Christine, and their children as they navigate through this difficult time.

Throughout all of this, Costner has remained silent on his social media accounts. However, on Wednesday, May 17, he broke his silence, but not to address his divorce.

Instead, he spoke about his upcoming movie, Horizon, which he is directing, writing, producing, and starring in. Horizon is rumored to be the reason behind his desire to spend less time on the set of Yellowstone. Costner’s post featured a photo of his director’s chair with the caption, “We’re deep into the production of #HorizonFilm, and I have to tell you, I haven’t felt this way about a movie since we were making Dances With Wolves. Can’t wait to share it with all of you.”
