Lainey Wilson Shares Why The Deluxe Edition Of Her Whirlwind Album Is So Special To Her

On Friday (August 22), Lainey Wilson dropped the deluxe edition of her Grammy-nominated album Whirlwind. The original record, which was released one year ago on August 23, 2024, peaked at #3 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart.

The original Whirlwind album contained 14 tracks, including the hit singles “Hang Tight Honey” and “4x4xU.” But the reigning ACM Entertainer of the Year felt like the Whirlwind story didn’t end with those 14 songs.

I’m finding out the Whirlwind never stops,” Wilson said in a post she shared on May 24. “The more I walk through it, the more my feet stay planted on the ground and my eyes to the sky. In honor of the one-year anniversary of Whirlwind’s release, I will be dropping my Whirlwind (Deluxe) album on August 22!

Ahead of the deluxe edition’s release, Wilson spoke to Apple Music’s Zane Lowe about her new songs and what they mean to her. She said:

“It was kind of like on the tail end of the Whirlwind, but I still felt like they were a part of it…a part of the Whirlwind story. So that’s why I felt like, ‘Alright we need just to go on and tack these on the end of it. ‘Cause it’s still a part of the Whirlwind era.'”

She said the new tracks carry a sense of “peace,” adding, “There’s a little like, magical feeling to some of it.

Whirlwind (Deluxe) features five brand-new songs. Fans are already quite familiar with one track, called “Somewhere Over Laredo.”

Wilson released “Somewhere Over Laredo” as a single on May 27. The song was inspired by “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” from The Wizard of Oz, and Wilson carries that same dreamy and wistful theming into the track’s official music video.

Other songs on Whirlwind (Deluxe) include “King Ranch, King George, King James,” “Yesterday, All Day, Every Day,” “Bell Bottoms Up,” and “Peace, Love and Cowboys.” Wilson co-wrote all of the new tracks except for “Bell Bottoms Up.”

Like “Somewhere Over Laredo,” the song “Bell Bottoms Up” had already debuted. Wilson dropped the track in April in honor of National Bell-Bottoms Day.

Wilson loves wearing bell-bottom pants and even has an album titled Bell Bottom Country. Her Nashville bar is also named Bell Bottoms Up.
