Jelly Roll Becomes The Newest Member Of The Grand Ole Opry

On March 10th, Jelly Roll was officially inducted as the newest member of the famed Grand Ole Opry. A star-studded lineup of fellow country music stars, including Craig Morgan, ERNEST, Leanne Morgan, and Lainey Wilson, lent their talents to the celebration.

The Tennessee native was surprised with the invitation to join while recording an episode of The Joe Rogan Experience in December. Jelly Roll broke down in tears at the dream come true.

Now three months later, Lainey Wilson had the honor of officially welcoming Jelly Roll into the Opry family. Lainey was inducted in June 2024. She addressed the packed Opry House crowd and said:

“There are some people in this business who are great singers, some who are great songwriters and storytellers. Every now and then, someone comes along who is much bigger than that, a voice for people who feel like they don’t have one. That’s exactly who Jelly Roll is.”

Jelly Roll Gives An Emotional Acceptance Speech

If there is one thing fans can count on, it is words of inspiration from Jelly Roll during each of his career milestones. His Opry induction night was no different. Never shy to talk about his troubled past, he shared:

“You take that kid who’s been at that local juvenile hall … or that county jail, and you bring him here, and you give him Grammys, and you give him awards and platinum plaques, and you make him a member of the most prestigious group, less than 230 people are members of the Grand Ole Opry. And every word I said sounded like I was telling you a lot about myself, but that is a story that only God could be the author of. Some stories, only God could write, and this is truly one of those stories.”

The “Save Me” singer gave glory to God and said:

“I don’t deserve the grace that God gave me, and I think that’s the best part. None of us do, right? And yet he gives it all the time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, you can show up on his doorstep with all of your problems.

Lainey Wilson Reflects On Inducting Jelly Roll

The following day, Lainey Wilson shared a series of photos from the memorable evening. The “Somewhere Over Laredo” singer expressed how honored she was to induct her “brother” Jelly Roll. She writes:

“If you’ve ever met Jelly Roll, you know this — the man you see on stage is the same man backstage, the same man in the grocery store, and the same man talking to fans who needed to hear they weren’t beyond saving.”
