To catch up, read our Episode 9 recap here.
It’s hard to believe this episode all took place in one day, but it did! Let’s get into it…
The Episode Begins At The Norris House
Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thronton) is sitting in his backyard, where his dad normally sits in the mornings to watch the sunrise. T.L. (Sam Elliott) joins him, and says, “You’re up early.”
Tommy replied, “Yea, I got fired yesterday.”
His dad asked him why and Tommy said, “For trying to run the company like a business instead of a momento or whatever she calls it.”
Tommy tells his dad not to worry because that he already has a meeting with Chevron, so finding another job won’t be an issue. He also considers being a Landman again, but he doesn’t have the savings to keep doing that.

Dale (James Jordan) joins the men outside and tells Tommy that wherever he goes to work, Dale will go, since they have worked together for 25 years.
“M-Tex won’t last a year without that man. Mark my words,” Dale says.
Cheyenne walks out in her underwear and Tommy gets upset that something romantic may have happened between her and his dad. T.L. explains that her car battery died and they didn’t have a truck to jump it with or jumper cables to do so. T.L. admitted they only slept and he held her in his arms all night. It was the first time in 55 years that he held a woman in his arms.
Inside the house, Tommy asks Nate for the paperwork for the loan that M-Tex took over for Cooper from Dan Morrell (Andy Garcia). It hadn’t been signed yet, so that posed a problem. Tommy told Nate to give him the day while he instructs Dale to “stand down” on Cooper’s land while he figures out the loan.
Nate reveals that Cami wants to meet with him in Fort Worth, and that in the 11 years he worked for Monty, he never met him in Fort Worth, so he is afraid he is next on the chopping block. Tommy reassures him he won’t be out of a job, as Cami will probably offer him the position of President.
At Cooper’s House, They Are Waking Up From The Situation At The Bar
Cooper brings Miguel home from his grandmother’s house. We see Ariana wake up with bruises all over her face and her body. Cooper asks her to stop working at the Patch Cafe. He explains that if she finds a passion and wants to pursue that, he will support that, but for now, he said he’d take care of all the bills.
Ariana doesn’t want to file a police report, but Cooper encourages her to so the assailant isn’t able to do this to anyone else.
At the police station, two female officers are taking photos of Ariana’s bruises and injuries and taking her statement. Cooper is brought in by two detectives who get his statement. They ask how many times he punched the man who attacked Ariana, and he isn’t sure.
Security camera showed that he punched the man 17 times, which is more than what is considered defending of a crime.
The Patch manager arrives at the police station and tells Ariana that the man who assaulted her died from his injuries.
“If you got a good lawyer, you call ’em up,” he said.
She immediately called Rebecca, who told her to barge into the interview room and have Cooper stop talking.
Rebecca calls Tommy to warn him and to call in any favors with law enforcement. Tommy calls the Sheriff and asks him to get him anything he has on the situation.
Rebecca showed up to the interview with Cooper and laid down the law. She threatened to bring one the detectives to court over a shooting that occurred where he shot a man 11 times who was only holding a pipe wrench.
“I am a life ruiner,” she told them.
It turns out, the attacker was a big wig for a pipeline company and the company is pressuring the police to charge Cooper. Still, Rebecca told Tommy to call in those favors.
When Tommy returns to Odessa, he shows up at the police station where he asks why hasn’t anyone said that the man who tried to rape Ariana died from a heart attack in the Emergency Room. After an exchange of words, all the men agree to rule the man’s death a heart attack.

The Episode Takes Us To Dallas
Dan Morrell’s wife Bella (Stefania Spampinato) informs him she is having lunch with Angela Norris (Ali Larter). He wonders if she knows about Tommy’s firing.
“Answer questions with questions,” he tells her, and she replies, “I know the drill,” implying that they discuss his sensitive work information often.

Tommy rushes to the airport in Midland, and makes a lunch meeting with an old friend at Chevron.
During lunch with Bella, Angela learns about Tommy’s firing and immediately calls him. He assures her he is already fixing it, saying, “It’s not 2008. I’m not gonna drink my problems away.”

Nate arrives at Cami’s office, where she shows him that they found all the paperwork for the loan in a basement. Cami offers Nate interim president, but instead he offers his resignation, and tells her that Monty designed the company to be sold after he died, not for Cami to continue it. He urges her to let Tommy help her sell.
At Tommy’s meeting, he tries to get his friend to buy out Cooper’s loan, but is told what he’s trying to do is embezzlement and he is not able to . The friend offers him Vice President of Production at his company, but Tommy says he needs to know if he’s got ‘one more home run left in me.”
Tommy calls Morrell to set up a meeting, where Tommy is trying to convince him to make a deal with him and Cooper’s land.
“Well God, you got anything else? Just give it to me” he yells.
Mere moments later, the vehicle two cars ahead of him crashes and causes a multi-car mile up on the Highway. Once he realizes he is safe, he looks to the right and a semi-truck crashes into the car right next to him.
He was able to drive to Morrell’s office unscathed, praying his day turns around. And it does. Tommy convinced Morrell to fund Cooper’s loan with M-Tex, and also fund a new project on Cooper’s land.
Morrell wrote two checks: one for $44 million to M-Tex, and $18 million to Tommy’s company, CTT Oil Exploration & Cattle. Tommy meets Nate on the plane, where they each tell each other how their day went. Tommy reveals to the audience that he played a bluff and needs Nate to open an LLC under the name “CTT Oil Exploration & Cattle.”

Ainsley’s First Day At TCU Cheer Camp
Ainsley is late for her first day of cheer camp and quickly realizes how much harder college cheer is than high school cheer. Her old roommate Paigyn is assigned to the cheer team as part of the Sports Medicine program. Paigyn spots ankle weakness and actually helps Ainsley and offers to give her a workout regiment to use with her strength coach so she doesn’t get hurt.
Later in the practice, some high school boys were making fun of Paigyn. Ainsley ran over and stood up for them, insulting the boys to smithereens. Paigyn and Ainsley decide to give being roommates another try after they both looked out for each other at camp.
The Episode Ends In The Odessa Oil Field
Tommy arrives at Ariana’s house to tell her the news about Cooper’s possible murder charges going away. Tommy brings Cooper, Ariana, and baby Miguel to Cooper’s Well #6. He asks that Nate, Rebecca, all the oil workers, Cheyenne, and T.L. come too.
Tommy tells everyone that they own seven square miles of leases and can drill wherever they want.
“You know what that means?” he asks them. “We’ve got our own oil company.”
He explains that 25% of profits will be distributed among the employees and introduced the Executive Board. Cooper will be the president, while Tommy will be the vice president. Nate is the treasurer, and he asked Rebecca to be the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Council.
Dale will hold the title of Head of Exploration, T.L. will oversee the drilling, giving him a little more purpose. And of course, Boss will run the crew. He also offered Ariana the job of Office Manager if she wants to work.
Everyone was ecstatic about their new job titles, but Cooper had a question, “What’s CTT?
Tommy replied, “Cooper, Tommy, Thomas,” he said pointing to his father, making us feel all the feels.
At home, Tommy and Angela talk about how lucky they feel everyday that they have each other. As he is about to follow his wife inside, he sees a wolf.
“You can’t have today, bud. Today is mine,” he says.
The episode, and therefore the season, ends there.
