Lee Greenwood Reveals That His Father-In-Law, Jim Payne, Recently Passed Away
Jim Payne, father-in-law to “God Bless the U.S.A.” singer Lee Greenwood, has died.
Lee shared the sad news on his official social media pages on Wednesday, October 2. Alongside a series of photos showing Jim through the years, Lee wrote:
“This week our family lost our patriarch – my wife’s father, and a man I loved with all my heart, Jim Payne. He was a veteran, a wonderful father and grandfather and a man full of goodness and honor.”
Lee recalled how he had to “win” Jim’s approval before he married his now-wife, Kim. “…in doing so I found a true friend, mentor and a man I aspired to be like as a father. He set the bar high,” Lee said.
Lee said Jim served as “the moral compass” of their family. But he also recalled his playful attitude, saying, “His shenanigans and pursuit of fun, joy and laughter will always be legendary!“
Additionally, Lee said Jim “was a man of immense faith” and inspired him to strengthen his own faith.
Lee ended his post by saying:
“Our family is grieving, but we are blessed to know he is resting in the arms of Jesus and reunited with his beloved wife, Honey. Please keep our family in your prayers. God bless you and thank you Jim Payne for the impact you had on my life!”
Lee Greenwood’s Fans Offer Prayers & Condolences Following His Family’s Heartbreaking Loss
Jim attended many of Lee’s concerts over the years, and got to know his fans as a result. In fact, Jim appeared at one of Lee’s shows just a few weeks before he passed away. They celebrated Jim’s 90th birthday at the concert.
Upon learning about Jim’s death, Lee’s fans shared their prayers and condolences for his family. Some of the comments on his post were:
