Luke Combs To Release New Song On July 25

On July 17, country superstar Luke Combs revealed his next project: a single called “Back In The Saddle.”

A few weeks before the announcement, Combs shared a clip of him singing “Back In The Saddle” in his living room, which had fans begging, “When is this coming out!??!?!?”

Combs is notorious for sharing clips of his songs, but not releasing them. Recently, he has teased a few songs, “Pushin’ Up Daisies,” “Wish Upon a Whiskey,” and “15 Minutes,” but hasn’t let fans know when he will release the studio versions. Hopefully, they will be included on his upcoming album he has been hard at work at.

On July 20, Combs shared some photos from the set of his music video, announcing it would be out on July 25th. If you swipe through the carousel of photos, you will see Combs standing alongside NASCAR legends Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Richard Petty.

On Wednesday (July 23), Combs posted a clip from the “Back In The Saddle” music video, which features footage of Dale Jr’s iconic No. 8 car being unveiled with the driver in a full racing gear as Combs sings,

“‘Cause I’m back in the saddle like some old cowboy who dug his way out of his grave. Pulled up his boots, put his pistol on his hip…Don’t worry where I’ve been, I’m back in the saddle again.”

According to a few comments, the video was shot at Tri-County Speedway in North Carolina.

Dale Jr. can also be seen driving a few high-speed laps around the speedway with Richard Petty looking on.

Luke Is a Big NASCAR – And Dale Earnhardt Fan

For Luke Combs superfans, this collaboration with Earnhardt makes perfect sense. Luke is a known NASCAR fan and has partnered with them several times over the years.

In 2024, Combs was the honorary pace car driver at Nashville’s Ally 400. He has also performed at big NASCAR events like the Daytona 500 and the NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race.

In 2020, Combs performed “Blue Collar Boys” in honor of the Cup Series.

In a few of his teaser videos, you can see that he is a wearing a flaming No. 3 Dale Earnhardt hat, and has passed his love for Dale down to his three-year-old son, Tex.

Tex recently had a Dale Earnhardt-themed birthday party, and seeing as Tex turned 3 (Earnhardt’s iconic car number), it seemed fitting!

What Does It Mean?

With Dale Jr. suited up in the clip, and the meaning of the song, it left fans with more questions than answers.

Does this mean that Dale Jr. is coming out of retirement? The legendary driver retired from full-time NASCAR racing in 2017 at the age of 42, citing wanting to go out on his own terms and the multiple concussions he has suffered over the years.

Since then, he has raced in a few Xfinity Series races, but could Dale Jr. be getting “Back In The Saddle” to full-time racing? With a new race announced in San Diego, and racing legend Jimmie Johnson wanting to participate, it might be time for some of the old guard to be coming back.

Only time will tell.
