What Has Happened On Marshals So Far?

A lot has occurred on Marshals since the show premiered on March 1. The show follows Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) in his pursuit of a “new beginning” after he joins an elite group of U.S. Marshals.

As you’d expect, each episode is packed with drama and action. Shocking secrets have been revealed, and others are in danger of being uncovered. But there’s also a layer of sadness that looms over every moment.

In the first episode of the Yellowstone spin-off, we learn that Kayce is grieving the death of his wife, Monica. She passed away following a battle with cancer, believed to be caused by toxins dumped on the Broken Rock Reservation.

When explaining why Monica was written out of Marshals, Luke Grimes told Entertainment Weekly:

Obviously, we can’t just watch this guy have his dream life. There’s no drama. Something’s gonna have to happen that gets in the way of him having that.

Marshals was a smash hit upon its premiere. Its first episode attracted 9.52 million viewers on CBS, making it the network’s most-watched premiere for a scripted series without a football lead-in since September 2018.

With streaming numbers factored in, over 20 million people watched the premiere overall.

The premiere’s success surely contributed to the news that followed on March 12. CBS confirmed on that date that Marshals has already been renewed for a second season!

Luke Grimes Talks Season 2 Of Marshals

Following the news that Season 2 of Marshals has been greenlit, Luke Grimes shared some exciting news about the show’s future.

While speaking with Collider‘s Steve Weintraub at the recent SXSW festival in Texas, Grimes revealed that they’ll start filming Marshals‘ second season “in May.” That’s sooner than many fans likely anticipated.

Season 1 contains 13 episodes, and 4 of those episodes have aired at the time of this writing. So naturally, Weintraub wondered if Season 2 will have the same number of episodes.

The answer is…no. Because it’s getting even MORE episodes!

No, it’s going to be more than that,” Grimes answered in response to the question. While he said the exact number is “up in the air,” he revealed, “It’s either going to be 18 or 20.”

He remarked, “Yeah. They like [the show].”

Looks like we’ll be seeing a whole lot of Kayce Dutton in our future!

Season 1 of Marshals is projected to end on May 25, just 10 days after another Yellowstone spin-off, Dutton Ranch, debuts.

The Season 2 premiere date remains unknown, but we anticipate it will air sometime in early 2027. Any earlier seems like too fast of a turnaround.

Plus, we don’t foresee Paramount wanting Marshals to overlap (too much) with Dutton Ranch or Season 3 of Landman, which many suspect will start in the fall.

Stay tuned for any and all news about Marshals‘ first and second seasons. We’ll be sure to keep y’all in the loop whenever we learn something about the show.

New episodes of Marshals air every Sunday night at 8 PM ET on CBS. Have you been tuning in to watch each week?
