On Sunday (June 16), families everywhere were celebrating the number one guy in their lives – their dads. But in the days leading up to Father’s Day, one daughter was remembering her father, and paid tribute to him on social media.

Luke Perry passed away on March 4, five days after suffering a “massive stroke” he was never able to recover from. The beloved actor left behind a fiancee and two children from his marriage to Rachel Sharp, Jack (21) and Sophie (19).

After he passed away, his children both shared heartfelt and emotional tributes to him on social media. Sophie, who lives in Malawi and works to develop preschools in rural communities there, said the following.

“A lot has happened in this past week for me. Everything is happening so fast. I made it back from Malawi just in time to be here with my family, And in the past 24 hours I have received an overwhelming amount of love and support. I cannot individually respond to the hundreds of beautiful and heartfelt messages, but I see them, and appreciate you all for sending positivity to my family and I. I’m not really sure what to say or do in this situation, it’s something you aren’t ever given a lesson on how to handle, especially when it’s all happening in the public eye. So bear with me and know that I am grateful for all the love. Just, being grateful quietly.”

Jack, a professional wrestler that goes by the name Jungle Boy, wrote, “I’ve learned so much from you, and my heart is broken thinking about everything you won’t be here for. I’ll miss you every day that I walk this earth. I’ll do whatever I can to carry on your legacy and make you proud. I love you Dad.”

Four days before Father’s Day, Sophie shared a series of photos from her early childhood and just said, “I love you.”

The first photo is when she was an infant, the second she looks toddler-aged, and the third, she is sporting curly hair as a little girl. The 8 Seconds star looked different in each photo as well, and let us remember him at different stages in his life.

One day prior, she shared a sweet story about how Perry always played the movie The Princess Bride on the little fold down television in the back of his mini van.

I will forever associate it with my father. It is one of the best movies I have ever seen,” she wrote on the post, before recommending it to anyone that has never seen it. She finished the post by saying, “And to you, dad. As you wish.”

In the movie, the farm boy always tells his employer, a beautiful woman named Buttercup, “As you wish,” when she asked him to do something.

There is a quote in the movie that goes, “That day, she was amazed to discover that when he was saying “As you wish,” what he meant was, ‘I love you.’ And even more amazing was the day she realized she truly loved him back.

After knowing that, it makes her post so much more emotional. Losing your father is always difficult, and Father’s Day must bring up so many different emotions. We will continue to pray for Luke’s family. May he rest in peace.
