Police Charge Man With Theft For Taking Flowers From Fan-Built Tribute To Ozzy Osbourne

A 45-year-old man has been charged with stealing flowers from a tribute site honoring Ozzy Osbourne in his birth city of Birmingham, England.

Ozzy passed away on July 22 at the age of 76. While he battled Parkinson’s disease for several years, his primary cause of death was later revealed to be a heart attack.

After Ozzy’s passing, many of his fans paid tribute to the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer by laying flowers, notes, and other meaningful trinkets near the Black Sabbath bench in Birmingham. When Ozzy’s public funeral procession traveled through Birmingham on July 30, his wife, Sharon, and his children paused in front of the tribute site to view it and leave their own flowers.

Since then, a man has been charged with stealing flowers from the Ozzy tribute site. The BBC reports that the West Midlands Police has charged 45-year-old Parviz Jafari with the theft of the flowers.

Authorities stated that Jafari was arrested on August 2. He is scheduled to appear in front of court magistrates on September 3.

According to the BBC, the Birmingham City Council started collecting the flowers, notes, and other items for Ozzy’s family. The items will be photographed and collated before being given to the Osbournes.

The BBC previously reported that the flowers will be mulched and scattered next to Ozzy’s grave.

Ozzy Was Laid To Rest During A Private Funeral

Following his public funeral procession on July 30, Ozzy Osbourne was laid to rest during a private service on July 31. He was buried at his home in Buckinghamshire, about a two-hour drive from Birmingham.

Famous guests reported to be in attendance included Rob Zombie, Elton John, and Yungblud. Ozzy’s Black Sabbath bandmates Terence “Geezer” Butler, Tony Iommi, and Bill Ward were also said to be in attendance.

Since Ozzy’s funeral, his children have thanked his fans for supporting them during this difficult time. His daughter, Kelly, said:

The love, support, and beautiful messages I’ve received from so many of you have truly helped carry me through the hardest moment of my life. Every kind word, every shared memory, every bit of compassion has meant more than I can ever explain.

Ozzy’s son, Jack, shared a touching video in tribute to him. The compilation included photos and videos of Jack’s fondest memories with his father.

Writing in the description on YouTube, Jack said:

“I haven’t really wanted to post anything since the passing of my father. My heart has hurt too much. I’ll keep this short because he hated long, rambling speeches. He was so many things to so many people, but I was lucky and blessed to be part of a very small group who got to call him ‘Dad.’ My heart is heavy with sadness and sorrow, but also full of love and gratitude. I got 14,501 days with that man, and I know what a blessing that is.”
