Luke Grimes Offers Insight Into New Yellowstone Spin-Off, Marshals
Luke Grimes is stepping back into Kayce Dutton’s boots.
Luke played Kayce across five seasons of the hit Taylor Sheridan series, Yellowstone. Fans said “goodbye” to the Duttons when the show ended in December 2024. But it turns out, that “goodbye” was temporary.
Now, Luke is reprising his role as Kayce in a brand-new spin-off, Marshals. Previously known as Y: Marshals before undergoing a title change, the show follows Kayce in pursuit of a “new beginning.”
The “new beginning” involves a new career, as Kayce joins an elite team of U.S. Marshals in Montana.

Naturally, Yellowstone fans wondered how similar Marshals would be to its predecessor. Luke Grimes answered that question during a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight.
He said Marshals will be “very different” from Yellowstone. How so?
As Luke explained, Marshals is more action-packed. “[It has] a lot quicker pace, there’s a lot of action in the show,” he said.
He added, “I hope you like it, that’s what I would say. I hope the original fans will still like it.”
When Does Marshals Premiere And How Can You Watch It?
If you’re interested in seeing what Luke Grimes’ Kayce Dutton gets up to in Marshals, you’ll want to mark your calendar for Sunday, March 1. That’s when the show premieres!
Marshals will air live on CBS at 8 PM, or you can stream the series on Paramount+.
Yellowstone alums Luke Grimes, Brecken Merrill (Tate Dutton), Gil Birmingham (Chief Rainwater), and Mo Brings Plenty (Mo) have all returned as series regulars. But one name is noticeably missing from the cast list.
Kelsey Asbille, who played Kayce’s wife, Monica, hasn’t been mentioned in any of the trailers or promotional material for Marshals. Clues shared in the lead-up to the show’s premiere seem to point toward Monica meeting a tragic fate.
The official logline for Marshals reads:
“Kayce and his teammates must balance the high psychological cost of serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence with their duty to their families, which for Kayce includes his son Tate and his confidantes Mo (Mo Brings Plenty) and Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) from the Broken Rock reservation.“
