Michael Jordan Is Taking Over NASCAR
When basketball legend Michael Jordan announced he was launching a NASCAR team, no one knew what to expect. Sure, he knows his way around a basketball court and he’s an elite athlete, but would that translate to motorsports?
He and NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin announced the formation of their brand-new racing team, 23XI Racing, in September 2020. Bubba Wallace signed on as their first driver and their debut was at the 2021 Daytona 500.
Currently, they have four drivers: Bubba Wallace (No. 23), Riley Herbst (No. 35), Tyler Reddick (No. 45), and Corey Heim (No. 67). Previous drivers include Kurt Busch, Ty Gibbs, and John Hunter Nemechek.
23XI Racing Won Their First Daytona 500 On Feb. 15
Michael Jordan’s team became front page news not long ago when Tyler Reddick took home the Harley J. Earl Trophy by winning the Daytona 500.

Winning the Daytona 500 is a feat in and of itself, but Reddick and 23XI Racing haven’t stopped there. The following weekend, Reddick also won the Autotrader 400 at EchoPark Speedway on Sunday, February 22nd.
This win was even more impressive because Reddick recovered from a multi-car wreck to cross the finish line first in overtime.
“Tyler did an unbelievable job, both teams did an unbelievable job,” the NBA legend said, referring to their other driver, Bubba Wallace’s performance.
Wallace led the race for 46 laps but ended up finishing eighth.
He continued, “I wanted one of them to win, I feel bad for Bubba because he had an unbelievable dayy, but Tyler drover his ass off. I’m very happy for Tyler and very happy for 23XI. The guys worked hard all summer and they never gave up. This is the fruit of their labor, and for us to come out and win the first two races says a lot about our team.”
Jordan’s Team Made History With A Third Straight Win
The third race of the Cup Series season, the DuraMAX Texas Grand Prix Powered By RelaDyne, was held on Sunday, March 1st.
Tyler Reddick and 23XI Racing made history when he crossed the finish line first again, becoming the first time that the same driver and team has won the first three races of the season!
While celebrating his win, Reddick recreated Jordan’s iconic three-peat photo from when the Chicago Bulls won their third straight World Championship in 1993.
When asked about the domination by his team following this third straight win, Jordan said, “It’s time for change! It’s time for a change, and the guys feel the same thing. Tyler came in with the most pressure, I guess. Everyone expected him, or he had a chance to win three in a row, that’s the hardest one to win, you know. He kept to his strategy and man, the guys put together a great car.”
Jordan was then asked what it means being a team owner and Jordan simply replied, “I’m just proud of the team!”
