Miranda Lambert has a soft spot in her heart for animals. The “Bluebird” singer founded the MuttNation foundation, an organization that aims to raise awareness about pet adoption and rescue.

Many rescue animals have found their forever home on Miranda’s own property in Tennessee. She has eight dogs, some cats, bunnies, chickens, and horses.

During a recent trip in Texas, Miranda and her husband, Brendan McLoughlin, added another furry family member to their brood.

In a post on Instagram, Miranda explained they were driving along the highway in Texas when Brendan suddenly turned around.

Two lane highway in Texas, speed limit 70. Brendan slows down and does a U-turn… Me to B: ‘why are you turning around?'” Miranda recalled.

That’s when Brendan answered that he spotted a kitten on the highway and knew they had to go back to rescue it.B to me: ‘there’s a kitten in the road and I knew you would kill me if I saw it and didn’t stop.'”

Stop they did, and Miranda and Brendan scooped up the tiny kitten and brought it to visit her family. Miranda said the kitten immediately bonded with her dad, Rick, and said it became his “new bestie.”

Miranda and Brendan decided to bring the four-five week old kitten home with them, and named it “Tequila.”

This kitten rode 9 hours back to Nashville with us and 3 dogs and was such a champ,” Miranda said. She also posted a bunch of pictures of the kitten with her, Brendan, and her dad, which you can see below.

Welcome to the Lambert-McLoughlin family little Tequila! We know he’s in good hands now.

Last year, Brendan was on hand to march with Miranda in her MuttNation march she holds during CMA Fest. At the event, she sat down to speak with ET Canada about how her husband embraced his role as a pet parent. You can watch that interview below.

It’s a good thing Brendan loves animals, because Miranda certainly does!
