During the second stage of the NASCAR Cup Series playoff race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, NASCAR driver Joey Gase was transported to a local medical facility after a violent crash that took off the back half of his car.

On Lap 92 Gase was running at the back of the field when he suddenly spun in Turn 1 as the left-rear tire came off his car. Immediately, Gase’s car was sent into a spin. He backed up the banking at a high rate of speed and with limited ability to slow the car down due to a loss of wheels.

With no control, his car slammed the outside wall, causing it to go airborne for a brief moment. He then slid back down the banking and made hard contact with the inside wall as well in a second impact.

After the incident, Gase appeared dazed and didn’t pull down his window net, which is a signal that they’re okay.  Safety officials approached the car and took the window net down before helping Gase from the machine.

Once evaluated, he was able to walk to the ambulance and was then taken to the hospital as a precaution. According to NASCAR, Gase has been released from the hospital and will be further evaluated upon his return home to Charlotte.
