Van Drives Into Crowd During Berlin Festival
One person has died and at least 15 others have been injured after a van drove into a crowd in Berlin, Germany on Saturday (July 25).
The incident occurred during Christopher Street Day, one of Europe’s largest LGBTQ+ gatherings, which had drawn large crowds to the German capital. Emergency crews rushed to the scene as police ordered attendees to leave the area while they investigated.
Police said a white van drove into Berlin’s Tiergarten park, located near the route where the Pride march had passed earlier, striking several people before crashing into a tree. Authorities did not provide an exact number of officers responding to the scene but said there was “definitely a lot of police” deployed as they investigated the incident.
The van was later found abandoned, and investigators said the motive behind the incident remains unclear.

Kai Wegner, the mayor of Berlin, called the incident “an attack on our free and open-minded society.”
“My thoughts are with the victims, their families, and their friends,” he wrote in German on social media. “I have confidence in the police and security authorities, who will be investigating with the utmost urgency.”
