Ozzy Osbourne Passed Away On July 22, 2025

Legendary rocker Ozzy Osbourne passed away suddenly over the summer, just a couple weeks after performing his final show with his iconic rock band Black Sabbath.

The rocker’s family released a statement announcing his death, which read,

“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning [July 22]. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”

In recent years, Osbourne had been battling Parkinson’s Disease, which left his wheelchair-bound and while that was a contributing factor to his death, he ultimately died of a heart attack.

Ozzy Osbourne was laid to rest at his home in Buckinghamshire, England on August 1st, the day after a public emotional funeral procession.

MTV Announced They Would Honor Ozzy With A Tribute At The Video Music Awards

On September 5th, it was announced that Yungblud, Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Adam Wakeman, and Nuno Bettencourt would be honoring the late legend at MTV’s annual Video Music Awards, which were set to be broadcast on CBS on September 7.

The performance was teased as being “once-in-a-lifetime performance honoring Ozzy with a medley of his greatest hits.”

Before the performance began, a video message from Ozzy’s son, Jack Osbourne, was played.

“Hey VMAs, it’s Jack Osbourne here,” he said before his daughters Pearl, Andy, Minnie, and Maple introduced themselves. “I wish we could be there with you all tonight as you celebrate my dad’s amazing musical journey. I know for sure it would make him incredibly happy to see these great musicians as they carry on his legacy and help inspire the next generation of rockers.”

He then thanked the performers and said, “We love you, Dad.”

Jack’s daughters then said, “In the words of our Papa, ‘Let’s go crazy!!!!'”

Yungblud kicked off the medley by screaming “All Aboard!” before diving into an epic rendition of “Crazy Train.”

Yungblud had the whole audience singing along to Osbourne’s 1980 solo debut. Bettencourt’s insane guitar riffs helped solidify the performance as one of the best Ozzy tributes that fans have ever seen.

Nearly three minutes in, Wakefield slowed the performance way down on the keyboard and transitioned into “Changes,” which Ozzy released in 1972 with Black Sabbath.

Next, Aerosmith’s Joe Perry and Steven Tyler appeared on stage to perform “Mama, I’m Comin’ Home.” Just a reminder for you folks: 77 years old and Joe Perry is 74, and they’re still rocking out like they are in their 20s!

We think Ozzy would have loved this tribute, and seeing as it was introduced by his son, it’s as though the family gave their blessing.
