Pat Green Lost His Brother, Sister-In-Law, And Nephews In The Texas Flood

After suffering a devastating personal loss in the Texas flood, country singer Pat Green organized a benefit concert to help with relief efforts.

On July 7, Green, a Texas native, said that his family had suffered “a heartbreaking and deeply personal loss” during the flood. He kindly asked his fans for privacy as he and his family took time to mourn.

It was later confirmed that his brother, John Green, was lost in the flood. John’s wife, Julia, and their two young sons were also killed. Their daughter survived.

…now it’s time we think about how we can rebuild the life around her,” Green told FOX 4, a news channel out of Dallas-Fort Worth.

NBC 5, also out of Dallas-Fort Worth, reported on Thursday (July 17) that the death toll has climbed to 135.

While his family mourned their loss, Green thought of others suffering after the flood:

“And then I thought about how many thousands of people across the great state have been directly affected by this and how many of their families have to do the same thing,” he told FOX 4. “I just want to give so much love to my parents who lost their children and their grandchildren.”

Pat Green’s Virtual Benefit Concert Raises Over $1 Million For Relief Efforts

Wanting to turn his pain into purpose, Green quickly organized a virtual benefit concert to help with Texas flood relief efforts.

“For whatever reason, I was given this thing with my voice where I can, I can not only raise awareness but try to change people’s minds. And so, I’m trying to turn the sorrow into some bright light, and hopefully, bring some resolution for these families that have been decimated,” he told FOX 4.

The event was held on Wednesday (July 16) at the Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. While there wasn’t an audience in the stadium, the program was livestreamed on YouTube.

In addition to Green, performers included Jon Pardi, Miranda Lambert, Dierks Bentley, Ryan Bingham, and Joe Nichols, among others.

As FOX 4 and other outlets report, the event raised over $1 million for flood relief efforts. Green confirmed this total in a post he shared after the concert, writing:

“I’ve always believed in the power of the community of musicians and music fans. Everyone came together last night, where that belief was confirmed in the most beautiful way. Over $1 million raised for flood victims by the end of the broadcast alone.”

Green said the funds raised will go directly to those who need them most. The concert will benefit Kerr County Relief, TEXSAR, and the Do It For Durrett Foundation.

Speaking about the event, Green said:

“Country music, especially Texas country people, we’re thick as thieves. We’re family to each other. All of these people I’ve known for most of my life. I look out for them as much as they look out for me.”

He added, “I don’t know anything that stands behind Texas better than Texas.”

The livestream for Green’s Texas flood relief benefit concert remains on YouTube as a video on demand. You can watch the entire program below. Green said the donation link will remain live for a few days.
